Everyday it seems as if someone is trying to redefine what it means to be Catholic. The Media and certain politicians like Pelosi, Biden and Kaine believe it is possible to be pro-abortion, for same-sex marriage, for artificial contraception, and for women priests and still be a good or traditional Catholic. All of these positions are acceptable within the Episcopal Church but the world does not need 2 Episcopal Churches. The world needs the Catholic Church to continue to stand for the truth of the Gospel.
Jesus did not say wide is the road that leads to heaven. No! Wide is the road to perdition but we are to enter the Kingdom of God through the Narrow Gate. We are not called to take the easy way. We are not called to be like the rest of the world. We can’t forget that the primary mission of the Church is to lead people to God, to help us get to Heaven. The Church does a lot of good with its hospitals, schools and various programs but it is all a waste if we fail to help people find God and make it to heaven.
We cannot abandon the truths of faith passed down over 2000 years. Our Church is not called to be in tune with the times but in tune with Jesus Christ who is the same, yesterday, today and forever. He doesn’t change in His divine character and neither does His teachings. We have to be true to the Church He established and for which the Apostles died. We also cannot forget His call to be merciful towards the downtrodden.
Over the Centuries hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions have given their lives for the gospel. People like St. Stephen, Peter and Paul, St. Lawrence, Thomas Becket, Thomas More, John Fisher and over one hundred English martyrs, Miguel Pro and Cristobal Magallanes, Maximilian Kolbe have died preserving the faith we have now. Are we to abandon the faith of St. Francis, St, Patrick, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Therese and Mother Teresa?
For what political gain, popularity or an easier life? Is that why so many were willing to die for the Catholic Faith? Yes it is a struggle to live by our faith but with God all things are possible. We are called to lead people to God not follow the crowd to perdition. We are called to be different from the world to be faithful to the God who loved us and created us and is calling us to take up our cross and follow Him.
We are not supposed to change the Church. The Church is supposed to help us change until we become more and more like Jesus.
Are you as disappointed as I am about so-called Catholic politicians claiming to be good or traditional Catholics when their political positions are much closer to the Episcopal Church? I don’t know if they are misled or deceitful but they are misleading many Catholics about what their Church believes in.
Take Tim Kaine who supports Hillary’s call for free taxpayer supported abortions. The Catholic Church opposes all abortions. The Episcopal Church believes that Abortion is a tragedy but leaves the final decision to the woman. Kaine also supports same-sex marriages, contraception and women priests all of which is opposed by the Catholic Church but acceptable in the Episcopal Church. He is a better Episcopalian than he is a Catholic.
It seems that modern Americans think the Church should change with the times but that contradicts the basic mission of the Church which is to help us get into heaven. Two weeks ago in the Sunday gospel Jesus talked about entering Heaven through the narrow gate. Does that gospel sound like the way to Heaven is easy or to be like the rest of society? We are called to be different from society, not in tune with sinful times.
Why should we change into another version of the Episcopal Church? Would that be staying true to the faith established by Jesus Christ and for which all of the Apostles except John died for? Would we be true to the faith for which Thomas More, John Fisher and over 100 English martyrs gave their lives. Would we be true to the Church, of St. Patrick,St. Francis, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Theres of Avila, Mother Theresa, Maximilian Kolbe and Padre Pio? Would we be any better than Henry VIII and Martin Luther?
Despite what the media wants, despite what the politicians want the Church cannot change its basic teachings and be the Church created by Jesus Christ? We cannot say yes to Abortion, contraception or same-sex marriage just because that would make us popular. The Church and Pope are accountable to God. The bishops, pope, cardinals and priests will all die and have to face God.
Would you want to explain to God why you misled His Church, why you allowed His children to be slaughtered by the millions and said nothing?
We need to remember Hebrews 13:8 ” Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever”. His teachings do not change. He never approve immorality. Remember the last words He said to the woman caught in adultery; “go and sin no more”.
Don’t be deceived by deceitful politicians who only want your vote.
We hear so often about the so-called Republican War on Women but could God be asking us ; what about the Democratic War on My children?
I remember Democrats like McCarthy and McGovern speaking out against the Vietnam War. I watched massive demonstrations in Washington on TV, involving over 1,000,000 protesters. So many liberals protesting a war that was killing our children. So many young Americans died in Vietnam yet each month more American children are killed by Abortion than died in Vietnam from 1945 until 1973. Each month a greater number of children are killed by Abortion than died during the whole Vietnam War.
The Civil War was the deadliest war in American history yet each year more American children are aborted than died in 4 years of warfare on American soil. The War on Children kills more Americans each year than we lost during World War II, World War I and Korea. In fact this war kills more Americans each year than we lost in all the wars the U.S. fought during the whole Twentieth Century.
Sadly since 1973, Roe v Wade about 58,000,000 Americans have been killed by Abortion, roughly one fifth of our population. Think about that one out of 5 Americans have been killed in a silent war against children yet so few protest. Yet this year the Democrat party has called for more Abortions. Not enough children are dying.
Where are the McCarthy’s and McGovern’s of this generation of Democrats? Who is speaking for the weakest, most vulnerable among us? Where is the Martin Luther King of this generation fighting against the slaughter of so many African-American children?
We have to ask why we allow this to go on? Why is it that children’s lives matter so little, that women’s rights are so much more important. Think about it. During World War II, Korea and Vietnam so many of our soldiers risked their lives to protect our children and our rights. Today rather than sacrificing for our children we killed them to save them from suffering. Does this make sense? Does any of this make sense. In the case of rape it is not the rapist who is executed but the child who dies for their father’s crime. Do you really think that God is going to approve of this? Would you bless such a nation if you were God? These are His children who are dying.
Why do so many Christians fail to stand up for the unborn? What will we say to Him when He asks us why we did nothing to save His children? Why are we silent? Why do we continue to vote for so-called Catholics and Christians who lack the courage to stand up for their faith?
I wonder what would be the impact if the profit was taken out of Abortion,if Abortion doctors barely made 6 figures and drove a Ford Taurus rather than expensive sports cars. Think about it. Would there be so many abortions? Would there be so much lobbying for Abortion if no one was making money off of it?
I used to be disgusted by our defense industry during the Cold War. It seemed that many of the arguments for the MX missile and other nuclear weapons came from people who profited from the Arms Race and many liberals like me objected.
Shouldn’t it be the same with Abortion? If Abortion is such a good for society, why isn’t it funded by the private sector? Why couldn’t it be covered by the Gates Foundation and other wealthy supporters of Abortion? Why should the government have to force taxpayers to fund something they believe is an abomination? Abortion supporters should put their money where their mouth is.
Why do abortions cost so much that the government has to fund Planned Parenthood? Why should their executives make more than state governors and Congressmen. After all according to the propaganda they are performing a public service. Why aren’t they doing more pro-bona work? Why is so much money involved?
Why is Planned Parenthood receiving hundreds of millions of dollars from the Federal government and spending millions of dollars to elect pro-abortion candidates? Shouldn’t our funding be so tight and limited all their money goes into services not politics.
Think about changing the debate on Abortion.
There is one thought that keeps running through my mind as I pray for this country. Remember the books of Maccabees in the Old Testament. What an awesome witness for our times and all Catholic politicians. Written about 100 B.C.; it tells the story of the Jewish response to the King Antiochus’ attempt to impose a superior way of life on the Jewish people and suppress their old-fashioned religious practices. Doesn’t that sound familiar? Don’t we have politicians attempting exactly that with their attempts to impose contraception and abortion on religious people? Haven’t we had a presidential candidate declare that deep-seated religious beliefs have to be changed?
In 2nd Maccabees there is a profoundly relevant story about the elder, Eleazar. Offered his life if he would pretend to eat pork he refused and was put to death. He did not want to live longer if it meant that he would influence others to do what they believed to be morally wrong. What a lesson for many Catholic politicians. He gave his life over the eating of pork while far too many Catholic politicians condone the slaughter of millions through Abortion.
We have to remember not only Eleazar but others died rather than compromise their religious beliefs. And not all died meekly. Judas Maccabeus led the Jewish people in a successful rebellion. We too need to take a stand and resist all attempts to impose a false religion upon us, all attempts to make us compromise our faith.
Pray! Pray for another Judas Maccabeus to lead us against those attempting to impose their perverted vision of a new world upon us. Reject completely those false Catholics, traitors to the Catholic faith, who support such Hogwash! Remember how real people of faith respond to attempts by the government to impose a false superior religion on them. They refuse to accept it like Eleazar, like the Maccabees did, not like our current Catholic in name only politicians.
Why should Catholics vote Republican? We’ve had Republican presidents for twenty of the last thirty-six years yet Abortion is still legal and Roe v Wade is still the law of the land. What difference does it make to vote Republican? It is not like Hillary will legalize Abortion?
How many Catholics voted for Bill Clinton thinking it wouldn’t make a difference? Well it did; Congress passed a bill outlawing partial-birth abortions but Bill Clinton vetoed it. He also used federal funds to promote abortions abroad. How many children died because Bill Clinton was president?
Anyone with sense knows that Donald Trump will not ban all abortions in the U. S. But he will obey the Hyde Amendment, forbidding the use of federal funds to fund abortions. He will be able to stop the U.S. from using federal funds to promote abortions abroad. Under Trump the U.S. will not be pressuring countries to legalize abortions. He will not be pushing to make abortions free and paid for by taxpayers. Doctors and nurses will not be forced to violate their conscience and participate in abortions. Catholic hospitals will not be forced to perform abortions.
Under Trump there will be a real possibility of Congress passing a law banning abortions once a child can feel pain after twenty weeks. Late term abortions in the 9th month of pregnancy could be banned. Children born alive despite an attempt to abort could be saved rather than left to die. Millions of children would be saved from abortion and given a chance for life.
On the other hand the Democrats are pushing for free abortions. No doubt this will encourage young men to try harder since they won’t have any consequences and more young women will be used and hurt.
They are also talking about forcing doctors, nurses and hospitals to perform abortions. Religion doesn’t matter. After all Hillary believes we must change our religious beliefs. The First Amendment doesn’t matter. All that matters is for women to have the right to kill their pre-born children. We are moving towards a dictatorship and for what; unlimited sex and the unlimited killing of children!
Who knows what these children might have become. Maybe one of them will become the doctor who finally discovers the cure for cancer or some other horrible disease. And maybe we’ve already aborted the person God created with the right set of genes to develop into the scientist with the intelligence to cure cancer.
One thing is definite, with Hillary as president many more children will die.
Alleluia, the conventions are over: now we only have 90+ days of torture left before this abomination of an election is finally over. Can you think of 2 less desirable candidates? Their arrogance and viciousness alone disqualifies them in terms of character. Yet barring divine intervention we are stuck with them and this election could have a devastating impact on the Catholic Church in America.
I wish I could vote for Hillary. I taught for 20 years in an all girls school and would love to vote for the first woman president but I can’t vote for Hillary and remain true to my Catholic faith. You see Hillary doesn’t believe in the 1st Amendment and religious freedom. Read what she said in a speech in April of 2015 to abortion supporters. “Yes, we’ve cut the maternal mortality rate in half but far too many women are denied access to reproductive health care and safe childbirth. All the laws don’t count for much if they’re not enforced. Rights have to exist in practice — not just on paper. Laws have to be backed up with resources and political will. And deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed [applause] As I have said and as I believe, the advancement of the full participation of women and girls in every aspect of their societies is the great unfinished business of the 21st century, and not just for women, but for everyone — and not just in far away countries but right here in the United States.” She was speaking about Abortion but her party also disagrees with the Church on traditional marriage and contraception. She was part of an administration that tried to force religious institutions to pay for contraception and abortions. Her election would mean the death of religious freedom in this country and possibly the whole Constitution.
The Democrats have sued the Little Sisters of the Poor in order to force them to pay for contraception. This despite the fact that they are a religious order and part of a Church that believes contraception to be immoral and sinful to support. They really don’t care about the Free Exercise Clause of the 1st Amendment which guarantees freedom of religion. In fact their platform calls for the repeal of the Platt Amendment which prohibits federal funding of Abortion and also calls for Abortions to be free. They want to force Catholic doctors, nurses and hospitals to perform abortions and make Catholic schools, colleges and other institutions to provide contraception coverage. It doesn’t matter what our faith teaches, what we believe or what the Pope says. They think they are more important than God.
Yes, the Democrats have nominated a so-called Catholic for vice-president but what good is he if he doesn’t stand up for his faith, if he sells out for political gain. He is no better than those Catholic politicians who abandoned their faith and supported Henry VIII. He is certainly no Thomas More who died rather than endorse Henry’s divorce and the Church of England. In reality politically his beliefs are much closer to the Episcopal Church than the Catholic Church, in fact closer to the liberal side of the Episcopal Church.
One thing for sure another Clinton administration will not slow the moral and political decline of America and probably will hasten both. The reality is we have become a great nation not because of our politicians, more likely despite our politicians. This nation has become a great nation because God has blessed us.
Are we a nation worthy of God’s blessing? Will Hillary make us such a nation? Does she even know how desperately we need God’s blessing?
As for Trump the best thing that can be said about him is that he is unlikely to persecute the Catholic Church or any other churches. So we face 3 choices, deny our faith, hold our nose and vote for Trump or skip the presidential race and pray.
If your faith is important to you, if you believe in religious freedom. if you believe the government should not force people of faith to violate their religious beliefs you can not vote for Hillary.
